GOLDEN SUNS SPLIT ON DAY TWO OF REGIONAL

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns softball team added another "first" to its historic 2015 campaign on Saturday, winning the first postseason game in school history as Tech captured a 4-1 win over Missouri Western at the NCAA Central Region Championship.

It was a game where the Golden Suns fell behind early, when Missouri Western plated a run in the second inning on a wild pitch to jump ahead 1-0. However, the Golden Suns knotted the game in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Kambri Hill, and then pulled ahead 3-1 on a two-run double by Chelsea Reeves.

The Griffons took advantage of three Golden Suns errors in the fourth to load the bases with one out. However, Golden Suns starter Morgan Vaughan got a fielder's choice to force the lead runner at home for the second out of the inning and escaped the jam after a MWSU groundout.

Tech tacked on a run in the fifth to pull ahead 4-1, and after a pair of walks in the bottom of the fifth, Vaughan gave way to Sydnee Clark in relief. Clark got through the inning without allowing a run, and tossed 2.2 innings of no-hit relief to close out the Tech win.

Vaughan improved to 13-8 on the season after allowing five hits in 4.1 innings of work, allowing one run and fanning two. Whitney Robinson had three hits in the win.

Unfortunately, the momentum did not carry into the second game of the day as Tech fell 2-0 to Henderson State, ending the Golden Suns' season. Henderson's Kiersten Seahorn hit a two-run homer in the third to provide all the offense the Reddies would need, while the HSU tandem of Ashlyn White and Michelle Sorensen held Tech to two hits.

Kelsie Barker entered the game in the third inning in relief, and was stellar for the Suns, retiring the final 14 Henderson State batters of the game.
