SEARCY, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech offense had a total of eleven hits on the day, led by sophomore
Ashley Savage and junior
Kambri Hill, but that was not enough to get past the Harding Lady Bisons on Tuesday, as the No. 23 Golden Suns (28-12, 15-9 GAC) were defeated by the Lady Bisons of Harding (18-20, 12-10 GAC), by the scores of 2-1 and 4-2.
In the opener, Robinson started the game off with a solo home run to put the Suns up 1-0 in the top of the first, but the Lady Bisons chalked up two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.
That would be all the offense in the contest, as Golden Suns starter
Sydnee Clark battled with Harding starter Amber Rollins down the stretch. Clark fell to 8-2 on the season after scattering six hits over six innings, walking three and fanning two.
In the nightcap, the Lady Bisons were the first to get on the board, scoring one run in the bottom of the first, but the Golden Suns knotted the game in the top of the second, taking advantage of an error on a
Shanna Davidson grounder to even the game at 1-1.
The Bisons answered back scoring one run in the bottom of the second to regain the lead, 2-1, and two more runs in the fourth to stretch their lead to 4-1.
The Suns tallied one run in the top of the fifth on a pinch-hit single by
Alexa Wimberly, cutting the deficit to 4-2, however Tech could get no closer as Harding sealed the doubleheader sweep.
Morgan Vaughan fell to 7-3 on the season after allowing four runs, three earned in four innings of work.
Victoria Huie was stellar in relief, tossing two innings of no-hit relief, surrendering only one walk.
Arkansas Tech returns to action this weekend, hosting Ouachita Baptist in a four-game series this Friday and Saturday at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex. Friday's doubleheader is slated for a 4 p.m. start while Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon.
