GOLDEN SUNS DROP OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER TO GORILLAS

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Bre Brooks and Anissa Pounds both scored 16 points, while Aujana Dawkins turned in a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double, but the No. 12 Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (27-4) were unable to hold off an overtime charge by the No. 19 Pittsburg State Gorillas (28-5), falling 91-80 in overtime in the semifinals of the Central Region Championship on Saturday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pitt State scored the game's first five points in the first 90 seconds, but the Golden Suns came back and knotted the game at 8-8 with 4:54 remaining in the opening quarter.
  • The Gorillas held a 10-8 lead at the first quarter media timeout (4:10 mark).
  • The Golden Suns carried a two-point (17-15) lead into the second quarter.
  • Pitt State opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run over the first four minutes of the quarter to claim a six-point (25-19) lead at the second quarter media timeout (6:03 mark).
  • The Gorillas took a double-digit lead (38-27) with 1:21 remaining in the half, but the Golden Suns were able to get to the line twice in the final minute, with Bre Brooks hitting four freebies to pull the Golden Suns to within seven (38-31) at the half.
